Induction into the Nze na Ozo Titled Men of Nibo Community.
Our Induction into the Nze na Ozo Titled Men of Nibo Community.
To the glory of God, yesterday, my brother and I were inducted into the highly revered and prestigious Nze na Ozo titled men of our town, Nibo.
The Nze na Ozo is the highest ranking order of my community and by extension the entire Igboland. The Nze gives you the rights to becoming a red cap chief and permits you to give in to discussing matters of huge importance in the community. The Nze precedes the Ozo titleship.
What my brother and I took yesterday was the “Nze” and not yet “Ozo” as has been wrongly reported in some quarters in social media. It’s thesame bigger union binding them both, but Nze precedes Ozo. We can now be righty addressed as ndi-Nze. While I chose the retain the “Ife-Nibo” which has always been the name known by all, my kid brother chose “Ebube-Nibo”.
However, we both chose in paying homage to those before us, our grandfather and our father, their own titles first. “Enezuenwa-agu anya, Ozonwokolobia na Odirachukwumma”. We answered those titled names before choosing ours. This is the culture, this is our own culture, custom, norm and traditions.
For obvious reasons, I truly wanted a low key event. Note - we all know the security situation in Igboland of today, quite sadly, Anambra in particular even right from the weekend. We also have another event, burial for the weekend. But more importantly, I didn’t want to bother you my friends from outside Nibo town, especially our social media community.
I felt we could’ve a low key event. Those that came from outside the town were either those who found out quite early that I was running around for the event or those who found out through various live broadcasts or those who came around to see me for one reason or another. We didn’t do an expanded invite.
My kid brother, Ebube-Nibo was unavoidably absent at the event. However, I took a double dose - his and mine. I stood in for him for the induction. By this singular event, we are fully qualified to wear the red cap anywhere in this world. We are entitled to chieftaincy as Nze or Chief.
May I humbly thank HRM, Eze Ugonwanne, Dr. Sir. M. C. Ngene, JP, Ezeike IV of Nibo and his amiable wife, the Majestic Okwesiri Eze Nibo, together with the Ikenga Nibo for their honoring our invite to be at our home for this very event. I thank them immensely and pray God to bless the King and his Royal entourage.
I thank ndi Nze na Ozo titled men of our community for their patience, acceptance and presence. They were at our home as early as from 10:00am and kept wait until we got wholly ready to kickstart the event. They showed maturity in their guide. They showed love in their directions and have shown huge love. For all these, we sincerely appreciate.
It was such a very beautiful outing. Our culture will never die. God bless the rich Igbo cultural heritage, traditions, norms and core values.
Thank you!
Tobenna Obiano.
